Mammoths / by Guest User

11 March 2018

These mammoths were drawn as part of a community campaign opposed to the construction of a Woolworths supermarket in Annandale, Sydney. I joined a small community-based committee to oppose the development. Right from the start, we worked very well together. By chance, everyone brought very individual skills and the combination was magic.

My part was being an old-fashioned Sign Writer, which happens to be the only skill I am qualified for (Showcard and Ticket Writing - Bathurst Technical College, 1968). I produced large banners which were distributed in prominent positions around Annandale and one even directly on the wall of a house overlooking the proposed site. There were many colourful posters outside schools and in the local shopping centre. These posters are in the collection of Leichhardt Library and below is one of the images.
